Tactics to maximize potential

Here are some of the tactics that I believe can help on maximizing ones potential. It is simple but effective and wanted to share my thoughts. 1.      The author Napoleon Hill said that “Definiteness of Purpose” is the first quality required for success after analyzing the richest men in America. Decide what you want to achieve in your life. Write down your short term and long term goals. Make it specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, time bound. I like this line "Goals are the fuel in the furnace of achievement." 2.          Create a personal mission statement and vision for your future. My mission is simple “I want to maximize my potential and help others maximize theirs” 3.          Never stop learning. If you are through learning you are through life. 4.          Read broadly and expand your horizons. 5.          Put fitness on your radar by engaging in a balanced exercise program. There is a lot of research which shows regular exercise releases pleasu

Some of my heroes and what they stood for

Here are my heroes and what they stood for  Steve Jobs – Innovation and Creativity I have read the Steve Jobs biography more times than I can remember and was blown away by his accomplishments. When we think of Steve Jobs we are reminded of two things Innovation and creativity. He has joined the league of Einstein, Edison and has made a dent in the universe. He has forever changed the way things are done. He also displayed remarkable resilience to come back after being fired from the company he founded. We have to salute him for his passion. I like his quote “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma- which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your hear and intuition.”                                        Rahul Dravid- Temperament, Discipline, Determination Brian Lara once said if h

Here are some great quotes to keep going and stay motivated "I hated every minute of training, but I said, 'Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.'" -- Muhammad Ali “Success in not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” -- Winston Churchill "The only way to enjoy anything in this life is to earn it first." -- Ginger Rogers "In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock." -- Thomas Jefferson “If I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants.” -- Isaac Newton "I want to live my life so that my nights are not full of regrets." -- David Herbert Lawrence "Just do what must be done. Seven Habits of Highly Effective People

Seven Habits of Highly Effective People is one of the best business books of all time. I have read this book multiple times. It has been mentioned as one of the Top 25 business books of all time by Time. Stephen Covey is one of my favorite authors and though he is no longer with us, his teachings through his book which explain timeless principles are still valid. Even though this book was published in 1989 the teachings are very much valid. Apparently President Clinton read the book and requested to meet with Mr. Covey at Camp David to get inputs on how to integrate them into his presidency. That is quite impressive indeed.  The Seven habits summarized below  Be Proactive  – Take complete responsibility for your life and choices you make. You are in charge of your life and can make wise choices. As Victor Frankl said " Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s o

Persistence and Attitude

Think and Grow Rich is one of the best-selling books of all time. There is a passage in the book about persistence which the author Napoleon Hill says is required to succeed in all walks of life. The necessary steps are 1. A definite purpose backed by a burning desire for its fulfillment 2. A definite plan expressed in continuous action 3. A mind closed tightly against all negative and discouraging influences, including negative suggestions of relatives, friends and acquaintances 4. A friendly alliance with one or more persons who will encourage one to follow through with both plan and purpose. This is a quote that epitomizes the importance of a CAN DO attitude “If you think you are beaten, you are; If you think you dare not, you don't. If you'd like to win, but think you can't it’s almost a cinch you won't. If you think you'll lose, you've lost, For out in the world we find Success being with a fellow's will; It's all in
