11 Keys to Success
I just saw a poster today with some great ideas on success when I visited the Raymour and Flanigan store today. I have expanded on each item mentioned on the wall poster as it was good. There was no source mentioned. Here are the keys with my expansion of each.
Dream big – Dreaming big dreams is the starting point of all success. My dream might be to come to a certain level in the organization while for others it might be to start a business. It doesn’t matter what the size of the dream is and all that matters is if we think the dream is ours and we are excited by it. Dreams have to be our own for us to get traction.
Strive for success – I think there is nothing wrong in aiming for success whatever that looks like to you. You can feel successful right now with what you have and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. There is no definition of success but the closest one is by Earl Nightingale who said, “Success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal.” So, it is the progress that makes us happy rather than the destination.
Love life – When we love life we really appreciate everything about it. Even if something goes wrong with our lives we still love it. When we love life, we take care of ourselves better and we understand that all of us are valuable irrespective of our social Peking order. Loving life puts us in a firmer footing towards greater happiness and fulfillment.
Seek joy – You should take the time to find out what activities give you joy. You can then do that activity at least some days of the week. Joy is the key to happiness. Scheduling activities that provide joy is a wonderful way to stay excited in life. For me it is exercising, reading and writing.
Have hope – John Maxwell wrote “Hope shines brightest when it is the darkest.” Hope is the antidote to worry. Remember to look to the future with hope irrespective of how many failures you have had till now. Hope is what gives us energy for the future.
Follow passion – Yes, I may not totally agree with this one. Of course, if you do find something you are totally passionate about and you get paid for doing it then you have it made. However, if you do have passion for painting but you can’t make a living out of it then just following your passion will not always work. I would say get passionate about why you are doing your job and then connect to the great benefits you get by providing service to your clients.
Appreciate – What you appreciate does appreciate more. You get more of what you focus on. Have an abundance attitude and remember the more we love others success the more peaceful we become. Appreciate your life for what it is and appreciate everything you have currently in your life.
Imagine– Creativity is your birthright. Imagination is the starting point of all innovation. We all can imagine great futures for our lives and live from that frame of reference. Imagine yourself as you would like to be. Imagination is the head chemist in the lab of success. Writing in a journal is a wonderful way to flex your imagination.
Stay calm – Calmness is the key to a long-fulfilled life with lesser stress and greater happiness. So, stay calm under pressure and just take a deep breath when you feel out of sorts. Another way to stay calm is to just go out for a walk-in nature.
Achieve – Of course we don’t want to measure our lives totally on our achievements. However, setting goals and going after it with full on enthusiasm is the key to happiness and lifelong passion as well. Go for achievements but never define yourself by your achievements.
Believe in yourself – The only person who can determine your success is you. So, it doesn’t matter if others believe in you but if you believe in yourself there is a greater chance of achieving whatever you want.
I think these are excellent guidelines that provide food for thought. I hope you enjoyed reading it.
