6 Pillars of Inner Success

In my opinion there are 6 key pillars of inner success. If we develop these we can truly achieve what we want while also experiencing the inner peace that is needed to lead a successful life. Here are the 6 pillars in my opinion if developed can truly help us get what we want.
Self-Discipline – I love this word because all of us have enormous talent bestowed. However, to really make sure that talent sees the day you need the all-important quality of self-discipline. Self-discipline is a quality that can be developed by having a clear idea on what we want and then ensuring the desire to succeed is greater than the consequences of not doing it. If we want to exercise 5 times a week then we can imagine the enormous benefits of exercise and visualize that while trying to keep the end goal in mind. If we want to achieve all the things we want, then self-discipline is the best place to start and we have 100% control on this. It is resolving to do what we have set out to accomplish in both our personal and official lives.
You can develop self-discipline by doing the things you want to do and know is right for you. It is sticking to your schedule and it is about scheduling your priorities. Stick to what you know you should be doing and that is what self-discipline is all about.
Napoleon Hill said, “Self-discipline is the Master Key to Riches.” Nido Qubein said “The price of discipline is always less than the pain of regret.”
Self-Esteem –Self-esteem is the cornerstone of a healthy personality. It is important to be comfortable in your own skin. Self-esteem is defined as your reputation with yourself. You are unique and have talents that can help you succeed. The key to self-esteem is to write down the qualities you admire in yourself. Maybe you have passion or discipline, in which case acknowledging your positive traits enhances your self-esteem. When setbacks occur while you may feel bad it doesn't reduce your self-esteem. Write down all your successes till now and keep track of your accomplishments. This surely enhances self-esteem. The true hindrance to high self-esteem is comparing ourselves with others. There are not two persons who are alike. So, no matter how much we try we cannot be like anyone else. So be totally comfortable with yourself and who you are. When you have high self-esteem you generally feel more positive about life and do better at work.
We all have an abundance of value irrespective of our social Peking order. Being comfortable with who we are and unconditionally accepting ourselves just as we are is the starting point of all self-esteem. This is something which comes from the inside and once you have this you will feel a lot more fulfilled. Here is my article on developing self-esteem.8 Ways to Enhance Self-Esteem
“Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.” Norman Vincent Peale
Self-Respect – We can truly respect ourselves for who they are, and we shouldn’t compromise this inner attitude to any outside interference. A healthy self-respect creates an aura of invincibility and puts you firmly in control of your life. Only when you value yourself will others value you. When we value ourselves, we feel a lot better about life and anything that life throws at us. Self-Respect can be developed only by internalizing all the other qualities mentioned here as it is a result not a cause. A healthy dose of self-respect can bring our best selves to every encounter in our lives. Nelson Mandela is a notable example of this. He was in prison for 27 years but despite all the hardships he never lost his self-respect. He came out stronger and was able to forgive everyone who had hurt him as well. This is a remarkable example of a man with great self-respect.
Self-Awareness – We all know that one of the keys to successful leadership is high emotional intelligence. This can be developed only through high self-awareness. You are the only one who knows your desires, strengths, weakness and dreams. One of the best ways to develop self-awareness is to journal and record all your thoughts on a regular basis. Once you know what you truly want and that desire only comes from you then you will be enabled to live more fully and achieve long term success.
Self-Confidence - Self-confidence is wonderful quality strongly correlated with success. A lot of times we see people who are highly successful and it is a direct result of their self-confidence. It is not something that you just have when you are born but rather it is something internalized after years of hard work and proving your competence in your area of expertise. Some of the ways to develop self-confidence are keeping tracking of your accomplishments, reading books, knowing your strengths, associating with confident people and knowing your job thoroughly. Here are 15 ways I found that can help us on this journey. 15 Keys to Self-Confidence
Self-Appreciation - This is the final piece in the puzzle of inner success. Jim Rohn spoke a lot about this and I totally agree that we need to appreciate our potential. Appreciate yourself for everything that you have done in your life till date and that will serve as the launching pad to greater success. We all have things we have done which we can acknowledge ourselves for. This also promotes a sense of peace instead of waiting for something to happen to feel contended. Once you appreciate yourself for what you have you can then decide what you want to do with your talent to achieve more.
These six qualities can be developed through good reflection and continuous action. If we do develop these qualities, we can achieve the success that we are looking for.
