The School of Greatness - 8 Keys to build a great Life
The School of Greatness by Lewis Howe is a nice book and will get you motivated to action. Most of it is common sense and if you have read any book on success you probably know all of this. It is a good reminder on what is needed to live a great life. Here are the major principles outlined with my take on each.
Create a Vision – The first step as always is creating a compelling vision for your life. Go deep on what exactly you want out of life. Write down what you want and look at it daily. Some authors suggest having pictures of everything you want in life and look at it daily. The basic premise is to have a visual view of where you want your life to be in 5 year’s time.
Turn Adversity into Advantage – This is not an entirely new concept. Napoleon Hill famously said “Every adversity carries with it the seed of an equivalent benefit.” There are so many people who have overcome enormous handicaps and irrespective of whatever you are facing there are millions who have had it worse. So get into a state of deep gratitude and look for the good in your life.
Cultivate a Champions Mindset – Every athlete who wins has a champion’s mindset. It is that extra effort they give which puts them in a winning situation. According to me to have a champion’s mindset you should have passion, self-drive, humility, grace, discipline and finally consistency. You can read my article on Champion mindset here The Champion Mindset.
Develop Hustle – I take this to mean take action. Nothing can replace action. Even if you read all the books and don’t take action there is no point. All learning should result in action. Only you can take action and only with purposeful action can you reach greatness.
Master your Body – I take this to mean take care of your health. It goes without saying and we all know what we do. We just need that extra motivation to keep going. So sleep well, exercise regularly and eat well. It is simple but surely not easy.
Practice positive habits – Successful people have great habits. One of the best books on this subject is The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg. The bottom line is analyzing all the habits you have and for each one you determine if it is helping or not. If it is not helping then you can stop doing it. Don’t worry about how bad it might have hurt you before as from this moment you can start anew and you don’t need to wait for the New Year to change. The calendar changes daily so make the changes now.
Build a winning team – No one does it alone and you need a support team to succeed. Have an accountability partner and make sure you share your success with them.
Live a life of Service – Your joy in life will be in direct proportion to the service you render. So ensure you make money by providing service to the people who do business with you. Leaving a legacy that lives on can be possible only with service.
There you have it all the tactics needed to lead a great life. Thanks for reading this post.
